Gartner Trends 2007 and Beyond

Gartner's predictions, for 2007 and beyond, reports that Blogging will peak in 2007 and by 2008 nearly half the world's data centres will lack the power and cooling capacity to maintain high-density equipment. Outsourcing - 10 largest IT outsourcers will see their market share slip to 40% by 2009, from today's 43.5%, a revenue shift of some $5.4 billion.
According to Stamford, Conn.-based consulting firm, other trends to watch for include:

  • By 2009, (CRS) corporate social responsibility will surpass compliance on your CEO's priority list.
  • Average total cost of owning PCs will plummet 50% by 2010.
  • By 2010, 60% of the global "cellular population" will be "trackable" by the so-called follow-me Internet.
  • During the next 4 years, companies and organiSations will flush $100 billion down the toilet on networking technologies and services that are wrong for their businesses.
  • Vista marks the last major release of Microsoft Windows.

In 2005 it was quite clear that so many more people were blogging, and now the fun has been exhausted by the various blogging tools available. I don't actually own a blog but can see how crazy everything become and now the fun of it is over. What's next.

Most companies have a ban on the internet so I can see why Gartner is stressing, data is growing daily in my company and its not to say its all around customer originating data. If its going to happen it because the idea of corporate blogging did not take off as everyone had hoped. I think blogging is going to happily join the shelf alongside email, until something else comes along.

Is Gartner prediction assuming that just corporate companies are blogging, what about the global masses who are not in these corporations. Blogging has made a huge presence over the internet everyone who can type is accessing some form/kind of blog whether its in a website, or a free site. Blogs are going to be around for a while yet.

$100bn over 4 years on wasted network technologies is major. Puts a whole new spin on integration, one minute we're focused on integrating and rationalizing and next we're trying to simplify, yeah IT is currently being pulled from two angles. Can you imagine the clean up afterwards

In the light of Enron you can see why CRS is going to be a priority. What is follow-me-internet a pseudo name for big brother watching you. Most companies are flushing millions down the drain with today's networking. Its going to take 2 years max to learn ins and out of MS Office 2007 let alone get comfortable with Vista
